Leyland Chess Congress - 28 to 30 August 2010
Welcome The 3rd Leyland Chess Congress
will be held over the August Bank
Holiday Weekend, Saturday 28th to Bank Holiday Monday 30th August 2010.
It is a 6 round Swiss congress, two rounds each on Saturday, Sunday and Bank
Holiday Monday. The congress is an ECF Game Fee event.
Venue Wellfield Business and Enterprise College, Yewlands Drive, Leyland. PR25
2TP. The venue is situated in the centre of Leyland, it is only 5 minutes from Exit 28 of the M6
and is well situated for Public Transport. Refreshments

Tournaments
There are three tournaments, FIDE Open, Major (Under 170), and Minor
(Under 135). For further tournament information, click

Prizes
In all tournaments, 1st. prize, £200, 2nd Prize £100 and third
prize, £50. There are also grading prizes of £50 in each tournament.
The organisers reserve the right to redistribute in whole or in part any
prize won by a competitor who has won or shared a prize.
There are two special trophies available at the Leyland Congress, to be
held for one year.
- Leyland Chess Congress Shield
- The Eric Wandless-Renton Trophy
- The Craig Fairclough Memorial
Trophy
The Leyland Chess Congress
Shield, in memory of Harry Marsden, will be awarded to the
highest scoring player, in any section, who is resident in
the borough of South Ribble or a member of Leyland Chess
Club. In the event of a tie, the trophy will be decided on
Sum of Progressive scores, then the Sum of Opponents score
if required.
The Eric Wandles-Renton Trophy will
be awarded to the highest scoring player, in any section, who is
resident in the borough of Chorley. In the
event of a tie, the trophy will be shared for the 12 month period.
The Craig Fairclough
Memorial Trophy will be presented to a junior (under 18 on 1
September 2008) with the highest score, regardless of
section. In the event of a tie, the trophy will be decided
on Sum of Progressive scores, then the Sum of Opponents
score if required.
Entry Fees For ECF Members, direct or via member organisation,
e.g. the NCCU membership scheme, FIDE Open: £25, Major and Minor: £20.
For non ECF members (direct via ECF or through a member organisation),
£28 & £23 respectively. For entries posted after 21 August, add £5.

After the
last round |
Gradings
August gradings will be used. Players without a grade must give
full information regarding playing strength, including their best
previous results and/or their highest grade. The organisers reserve
the right to transfer entrants to other sections, but will endeavour,
if time allows, to inform entrants beforehand.
Rate of Play
40 moves in 100 minutes, followed by a rapid play finish in
which the clocks are set back 20 minutes.
